VideoLAN recently updated VLC for Windows 10 to version 2.5.3.0 on both phones and PCs. VLC is the ultimate media player available on all operating systems and devices.
More about the latest VLC update
The update brings along a few performance improvements such as Direct3D enhancements on ARM which will result in stability and performance enhancements.
The background music playback has also been improved, and this is great because before it was stutter, and now it really sounds smoother.
VLC’s features
The VLC media player is ported to the Windows Universal Platform, and you should know that this version of the app does not have all the features of the classic VLC. For instance, it doesn’t support Blu-rays or DVDs. For these, you will have to use the desktop version of the app.
The VLC media player is a portable, open-source, and, of course, free cross-platform media player and streaming media server developed by the VideoLAN project.
It supports virtually all audio and video formats, including subtitles, streaming protocols, and rare file formats. VLC features a complete feature-set over the video, audio and video filters, and subtitle synchronization.
About the VideoLAN organization
The project debuted as a student project at the French École Centrale Paris, back in 1996. After a complete rewrite from 1998, it became Open Source, and this happened thanks to the agreement of the École Centrale Paris, in 2001.
The project opened up to developers outside of the École. And now it turned out to be a worldwide project with developers from forty countries. Since 2009, the project is entirely separated from École Centrale Paris and is driven by an autonomous non-profit organization.
The organization produces free software for multimedia that is released under the General Public License.
