Usually, we check out NetMarketShare’s reports and figures to determine the current state of the desktop OS market. Even if the number cannot be 100% correct, the company usually nails the overall situation and produce consistent figures.
StatCounter’s reports on Windows 10
Of course, NetMarketShare is not the only firm that monitors operating system shares. StatCounter is another that does the exact same things.
According to StatCounter, Windows 10 grew 1.65% in October, for a total market share of 40.95%. On the other hand, NetMarketShare showed that Windows 10 only had a 29.26% market share, leading to a significant difference.
StatCounter’s reports on Windows 7
Windows 7 fell 1.32% points and the OS now has 42.67% of the market share. If Windows 10 continues the same way this month and Windows 7 also falls by the same amount it did last month, the two will eventually pass each other.
In other words, Microsoft will have a huge reason to celebrate. The company previously said that something like this already happened back in 2016.
Other operating systems
According to StatCounter, Windows 8.1 grew by 0.02% points to 9.03%, remaining the same and remaining with its 2.64% market share.
Combined, these two have a total percentage of 11.67 and in comparison, NetMarketShare presented a percentage of 7.34 for another significant difference. Windows XP fell 0.3% points from 4.19% in September and now has 3.89% market share.
