If you look at our African Tech trends of 2014, e-Commerce “came of age”. Now that’s not a far-fetched claim now that Alan Cassels the area Managing Director, DHL Equatorial Africa Region and also DHL Kenya country manager said that “The Uganda community is now more versed in online shopping” in an interview with Howwemadeitinafrica.

The global courier and logistics company with a strong presence in Africa said it’s receiving numerous transportation requests of goods bought online. “As DHL we are getting numerous requests to transport goods that have been purchased online.”  Alan said.

Currently Uganda has more than 10 serious ecommerce sites buying and selling goods online, more than 5 e-ticketing sites and 5 more sites that enable you order food online. However, e-Commerce is a trend quickly catching on across the entire African continent thanks to pan-african wide e-commerce site like Rocket Internet owned online retail store Jumia, Naspers owned classified site OLX and e-commerce store Konga in Nigeria.

The e-commerce sites have splashed ernomous amounts of cash in offline advertising such as on Radio and TV and online advertising. OLX for instance has been running a cool TV Ad featuring Music Celebs Radio & Weasel promising users a hussle-free way of selling their stuff online using only their mobile phones. Rocket Internet, the custodian of Jumia, Kaymu, Lamudi, Jovago among other e-commerce destinations last year announced that they will be working with social media giant Facebook to automate their Ads according to Techmoran.
