Microsoft is constantly improving Windows 11, and users can get access to the latest features and improvements early in the Windows Insider Program.

  • Windows 11 Dev 25231 finally gets the ability to search open processes in Task Manager.Search processes by their name, publisher, or process ID in a matter of seconds.This feature isn’t enabled by default, but there’s a way to quickly enable it.

The latest Dev 25231 build brings improvements to the Task Manager allowing you to finally search for open processes on your PC.

We all used Task Manager before to close that pesky process that is frozen or to find out which application is causing high CPU or memory usage.

However, with dozens of processes running in the background, finding a specific one isn’t easy, since you have to manually search for it.

That changes in this build, and Task Manager now has a search bar on the top that allows you to search processes by their name, publisher, or PID.

However, this feature won’t work out of the box, and to enable it, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Download the Vive Tool from GitHub.
  • Extract the Vive Tool to a directory you can quickly access, such as C:\ViveTool
  • Start Windows Terminal with administrative privileges.
  • Next, navigate to the Vive Tool extraction directory. You can do that with the following command: cd C:\ViveTool
  • Lastly, run the following command: vivetool /enable /id:39420424
  • Restart your PC.

You can disable this feature by following the same steps and running this command instead: vivetool /disable /id:39420424

The search bar in Task Manager looks like an exciting new feature that will benefit all users. Currently, it’s available in the Dev build, but we expect to see it in Windows 11 22H2 in near future.
