The need for video content is on the rise lately. To take advantage of this growing trend, you need video footage. If you decide to produce the videos yourself, it can be complicated and costly.

Here is a list of places you can get free stock videos to use in your social media content plus other uses.

Pexels

This began as a free photo site but has since added a large library of free HD stock videos. And true to their name, all videos on Pexels have enough pixels to look great on any screen.

Their collection is also under the CC0 license, so you can edit and use the videos for personal or commercial purposes without asking for permission or linking back to the original source. Use their list of popular searches to find the most in-demand stock videos.

Pixabay

This is also best known as a resource for free stock photos but it also has a great variety of video clips available to download and use.

The videos are all submitted by Pixabay’s community of users and are generally under a minute in length.

There’s a small selection of 4K video too, motion graphics, and some infinitely looping clips.

All clips are provided free for personal or commercial use, with no attribution necessary. The files are provided in MP4 format, in a choice of resolutions.

Videvo

It has thousands of stock videos uploaded thanks to its generous community members who are freelancers, videographers, and generally nice people. Apart from free video footage, Videvo also offers free motion graphics resources.

You can choose between two licenses: the Videvo License, and Creative Commons 3.0. The former will let you use the video in any way you like. Without giving any credit to the author, but you will not be able to upload or share the video online. Whilst Creative Commons 3.0 needs of you to credit the author that you have taken the video from, which is also why so many authors and creatives find it safe to share their stock footage on Videvo.

Splitshire

SplitShire is the brainchild of web designer Daniel Nanescu, who wanted to share his collection of free stock photos and videos with the world. The only restrictions on what you can do with the content: you may not resell it, upload it to other stock websites, or create anything offensive with it.

Videezy

This has a wide variety of clips in HD and 4K resolution and is excellent for aerial drone footage.

All of the site’s clips are delivered in MP4 format and you can check the resolution below each video.

While not all of Videezy’s videos are free, there is a large selection of free stock video clips selected for personal and commercial use. It’s also easy to tell the difference, as the premium clips have a green “Pro” tag on their thumbnails.

If you use free stock videos from Videezy, you need to give attribution in one of two ways.

  • If you plan on including the clip on TV, YouTube, or another broadcasting channel, you must include “Videezy.com” in the credits. And if you plan on using the clip on your website, you must include the following code on the webpage: B Roll provided by Videezy.com

Alternatively, you can buy credits to download clips to use without attribution.
