Reddit users recently published a few images featuring a brand new look for Windows 10’s search interface, which bears a striking resemblance to Mac OS’ very own Spotlight.

While it is currently unknown whether or not this new look will ever become the new default look or just be an optional one, everyone agreed that it will ease the transition for new users from Mac to Windows.

The main argument brought to the table would be the superior search functions that are available in Spotlight, which Windows 10 seems to severely lack.

As you can see from the image above, the UI is made to be for more minimalistic. As far as the community can tell, if it also has the functionality of Spotlight and not just the looks, then it is definitely an improvement.

Some users went as far as to stat that:

Others went even further and stated that Mac OS’ Spotlight is:

The thing that Spotlight has over Windows Search is that it can find things. When you come from Windows, it just feels revolutionary when really, it does its job OK, but it’s by no means great.

Given that there are plenty of third-party apps available on the Microsoft Store which are meant to enhance Windows 10’s native search function, it seems that Microsoft finally decided to take matters into their own hands.

Still it’s light years ahead of Windows search both in terms of search quality and usability.

This idea is further reinforced by the fact that most apps that enhance the search functions are designed to look and feel like the Mac OS’ native search function.

Only time can tell whether this potentially bold move will increase Microsoft’s share in the Operating System market or not.

However, if we are to take the community’s opinion into account, it definitely should.
