The Windows 10 April 2018 Update Is Out Now

Well, it took a little longer in coming, but the much-anticipated Redstone 4 update has landed! Microsoft has confirmed that the Redstone 4 update (previously known as the Spring Creators Update) will be rolling out from April 30. Redstone 4 is also now officially titled the Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

The Microsoft vice president of the Windows and Devices Group, Mr. Mehdi, announced the official launch date for the latest update on the Windows Blogs. There he confirmed that, “The April 2018 Update will be available as a free download beginning Monday, April 30.” The Microsoft vice president also stated, “With our latest release – the Windows 10 April 2018 Update – We want to give you back some of your greatest currency, your time.”

The original launch date for Redstone 4 was April 10, which would have been in keeping with the patch Tuesday update tradition. However, the late discovery of some bugs in Redstone 4 ensured a delay for the update’s release. It seemed that the update would be pushed back to May. However, Microsoft just about fitted the latest build’s launch date into April. Thus, the Windows 10 April 2018 Update is now rolling out.

The blog post that includes the Redstone 4 launch announcement emphasizes time. The new Timeline is one of the biggest additions to Win 10 included in the Windows 10 April 2018 Update. The post includes a video (below) that introduces the Timeline in Win 10. The Timeline spans about one month and enables users to quickly open previously opened software and files.

However, the April 2018 Update delivers quite a bit more than just the Timeline. Microsoft’s April 2018 Update blog post also includes three other preview videos for the update’s new Dictation, Focus Assist and revamped Edge browser. The updated Edge browser gets a new Clutter-free printing setting, a Mute tab option and an updated EdgeHTML 17 rendering engine that ensures fall support for Progressive Web Apps.

The Windows 10 April 2018 Update is already available for download starting April 30. However, the Windows Update roll out actually starts from May 8. Then, so long as you have the Windows Update service on, you can probably expect an automatic Windows 10 April 2018 Update during May or June. Thus, Redstone 4 is still more of a May update than an April one.
