Microsoft is offering a look at OneDrive’s upcoming design refresh scheduled to arrive in the next few weeks.

OneDrive revamped with new design

During the Ignite 2017 conference this past September, Microsoft revealed a design refresh and other improvements in the works for OneDrive. Back then, we got the chance to take a look at what Microsoft had in store, but now the company offers more details at what’s in store by focusing on how the new design will use screen space more effectively due to its new layout.

New icons and a more cohesive theme across devices and apps

The cleaner design will consist of new icons and a more coherent theme across devices and applications. Users will also get the ability to quickly preview files in a thumbnail before they decide to open them.

Microsoft also said that it managed to do some work to highlight the new files better.

Highlighting new files

Microsoft says that shared files are easier to spot and the thumbnails will be larger and more detailed. Our eyes better recognize familiar shapes and colors, and the company wants to take advantage of this by modifying the look of the files and folders from the list.

This way, you’ll find what you are looking for much easier.

Introducing a new compact list view

To help users parse an extensive collection of documents and files, Microsoft will also add a compact list view, shrinking the space between the file names in folder views to see more files at once.

Other improvements include new icons showing trending and recently created files. They’ll allow users to see popular or newly added files quickly.

All these new features will start to roll out in the next few weeks across OneDrive on the web, iOS, Windows, and Android.
