Surface Pro 4 Stuck In Reboot Loop After Windows 10 Anniversary Update Install

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update is here but installing it is proving to be quite an issue for some users. Users have reported plenty of installation errors, and it appears that even premium devices are affected by installation issues.

Many Surface Pro 4 users complained about their devices being stuck in a reboot loop when trying to install the Anniversary Update. They used various workarounds to solve this issue, such as running the troubleshooting tool, repairing corrupted files and other such fixes, all to no avail.

What is interesting is that Surface Pro 4 owners already reported reboot loops when they tried to install Insider builds. They all hoped that Microsoft would fix this issue, but it seems the reboot problem is here to stay even on version 1607.

Users also disabled the Secure Boot option in BIOS, but this solution didn’t help either. For the time being, Microsoft’s support engineers couldn’t offer a reliable solution to fix the reboot loops, they only offered the same textbook fixes that users already mentioned hadn’t work.

So, I’ve tried to install the update on my SP 4 today, and, after one or two reboot, I’ve ended up in a reboot loop. The installation isn’t complete by this point, and something like “Setting updates up..” or so shows for a fraction of second, and then the system reboots. The only way out of this is to boot into recovery, and roll back to previous build.

Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 got 18 updates via the Anniversary Update related to the Surface Pen, rear and front camera, the surface touch, the graphics card and also the OED and audio controller.
