Snapdragon 850 processor laptops shipped by Microsoft and OEMs weren’t initially compatible with the latest Windows 10 OS versions.

The problem was that these laptops were running Windows 10 with the April 2018 Update, which didn’t support Snapdragon 850. This has been fixed.

As you can see in the image below, Microsoft have found a neat way to allow the April update to support the new processor.

This is also good news for anyone who bought the new Galaxy Book 2 from Samsung, and the Yoga C630 from Lenovo, which are now fully optimised for the processor.

For those of you who are not sure what this all means, check out Qualcomm’s promo video for Snapdragon 850.

For those of you at work or not able to watch the video now, here are the highlights:

  • Lightening fast LTE speeds – Up to 1.2 Gbps
  • Beyond all-day battery life – always on performance
  • Hardware accelerated machine learning
  • Immersive entertainment – HDR playback and Hi-Fi audio

This doesn’t really give many details and, of course, the real tests will all come about when users get to play and see if the reality lives up to the hype.

No matter what, the fact that I have been able to write TWO good news articles about Windows 10 in succession warms the cockles of my heart and reinforces my view that everything is well with the world.

Surely this is too early to ask but, “Has anyone been able to play with the new Snapdragon 850 processor on Windows 10?” Let us know if/when you have and what you think.
