Windows 10 users running the latest build 14367 now have the opportunity to test out the new version of Skype UWP Preview. The app is now updated, offering users support for a series of long-demanded features such as multiple calls, voicemail and call hold. The v11.5.155 update also brings translator support and directory search improvements along with notification and badging performance improvements.

Microsoft is heavily focusing on improving the Skype user experience, rolling out updates for this app so often that the company is actually working faster to improve Skype for Windows 10 than it did for the Windows 8 app version. It could be due to user complaints that Skype felt ancient, with not much having been done in terms of regular consumer features since Microsoft acquired the company back in 2011.The tech giant now wants to change that perception and is revamping Skype in order to keep up with similar apps such as Whatsapp and Viber.

Users love these updates, but are also making suggestions for future improvements. They’re requesting Microsoft add Skype support in default apps such as Outlook, Calendar and Microsoft Edge. Redmond will definitely read the suggestions as it always listens to what users have to say, but it’s unlikely it will add them by the time the Anniversary Update is pushed out.

Skype is one of Microsoft’s most successful apps, with more than 1 billion downloads. It appears that Microsoft is also trying to turn Skype into the preferred app for business users with its series of updates particularly aimed at this market segment. For instance, the recent Office 2016 Insider Preview builds have improved Skype for Business for more efficient online meetings.

The Skype for Business SDK feature for mobile now allows business owners integrate Skype audio, video, and chat into their apps on the native level. It is clear that Microsoft wants companies from around the world to rely on Skype for Business to provide their clients with video, audio and messenger chat.
