The Linux-based desktop operating system is well known for its security. However, lately, it seems that this operating system has been getting some love from developers of third-party applications.

We have to agree that Windows 10 and macOS Sierra are full of third-party apps not available on Linux machines, such as Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office. Well, we have some good news for all Linux users: They can now install the latest Skype Alpha version on their computer and start sending SMS text messages to their friends and family.

The latest Skype Alpha version for Linux is 1.13 and can now be downloaded from the internet. Once you download the package to your computer, install it and log in using your Skype ID.

We remind you that the web-based solution Google Voice allowed you to send text messages before, but you needed to use a web browser for that. In other words, it is always better to use Skype on Linux in order to send SMS text messages.

Skype Alpha Version 1.13 For Linux: What’s New?

HINT: You can now download the DEB or RPM package directly from the Skype official website.

There are rumors which say that Skype will receive even more features on Linux in the near future. However, it’s not sure yet what Microsoft is thinking about but the company will most likely make an official statement sometime in the near future.
