One of the biggest mysteries of Xbox One was why this platform still didn’t have its own UWP version of Skype. Well, that mystery is now solved, as Microsoft finally decided to released the very first version of Skype Preview for Xbox One.
Namely, Skype Preview just appeared in the Xbox Store, but is still unavailable for download. If you try to download the app now, you’re going to get an error message saying “Try again later, something happened on our end”.
We’re positive that Skype wasn’t listed there by mistake, and will eventually arrive to Microsoft’s gaming platform very soon. The information was even confirmed on Skype’s Community page:
Skype UWP is already available on both Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and is only a matter of time until it comes to the Xbox One platform. Skype for Windows 10 debuted in April this year, and since then, major updates and improvements have been rolled out.
We are working on bringing the new Skype Preview to Xbox One in the near future. In the meantime, you can continue to use the existing Skype for Xbox One app. The current “Skype Preview” app with the “Coming soon” tile that you see as “Ready to install” cannot be downloaded currently. Stay tuned for more information.
Skype Preview is not the only Windows 10 app that recently appeared on Xbox One. We remind you that Microsoft also released Photos, Maps, and Groove Music apps for this platform. All this is apparently part of Microsoft’s plan to bring same apps across multiple platforms, so expect more additions like these in the near future.
Of course, as soon as Microsoft fully releases Skype Preview on Xbox One, or make another announcement about the app, we’re going to let you know about it. Stay tuned.
