Microsoft just pushed a new update for Skype Preview to Windows Insiders. The new update brings some fresh features, and enhances the overall usability of the app.

With this update, Microsoft introduced the drag and drop option to Skype Preview. Users are now able to simply drag a file they want to share into Skype’s UI, and it will automatically be sent. This feature has been present on the Desktop version for quite some time, so Microsoft is catching up with the Preview, as well.

Additionally, links shared with Skype Preview will have a URL preview. This option was also introduced to Skype for Desktop some time ago. The latest update also enhanced the calling and video experience, and introduced the ability to start a conversation directly from a contact’s profile page.

Here’s the full changelog:

  • “Improved messaging – drag and drop files (up to 300MB) and images up to 300MB in chat to quickly share them, right click on the message and select “Quote Message” so you will know who said what in instant message chats, see an image preview of a shared URL rather than a long link, and stay on top of unread messages with an unread message indicator in chat.
  • Enhanced profiles – start a call or conversation from a contact’s profile page, add/remove/block contacts, view initials of a contact if they don’t have a profile picture, and unblock blocked contacts.
  • Easier calling – manage audio/video devices from Skype settings to select a preferred camera, microphone or speaker and test audio before a call.
  • Additional Windows Mobile updates – video calls will default to loud speaker for video calls and improved back button navigation.”

All these options are, for now, only available to Windows Insiders of Windows 10 Preview Program. We don’t know when Microsoft will introduce them to regular users. The first guess is that it will be with the Creators Update, but the company may easily bring the update earlier.
